They are no nice to begin with. But if you are looking at themed hotel, try their branch at Joo Chiat.

If you looking for convenience and accessibility, the one in Chinatown is not too bad.

If you looking at the setting, the one at Bencoolen is their latest addition.

If you are keen on "cheaper" hotels, away from the main stream ones, you can look at Oxford Hotel at Waterloo Street near Bugis MRT.

Or Bayview Hotel, with less sleaze and just opposite Hotel 81 Bencoolen.

Other than that, several other so-called 4-stars are not too bad to stay in as well - Allson Hotel,Furama Riverfront,Furama City Centre,Hotel Miramar.

Well personally, I don't like Hotel81, you might want to check www.asiatravel.com, where you can find out the rate of hotels in Singapore. The Robertson by the Quay is a good hotel, doesn't cost that much different from Hotel81.

When I went to stay in Singapore, I stayed at the YMCA then the rosa sentosa hotel. The YMCA is really convinient! It's really close to the subway and bus stops and quite a big mall. The rosa sentosa has this really great swimming pool. The view in the rooms are great too. I loved staying there.

I have only ever stayed at the ones in the Geylang area, only because of the food there. Well, it can really be a little sleazy. I'm not sure if you're female or male. If you're female, it is likely that you may be approached if you are alone or with girls. Best to get yourself a male companion to avoid advances.

Other then that, there are loads of yummy local food there that i recommend you try out.

I spent a couple of months at the Joo Chiat Location. I found it great. Food very convenient at any time of the day on East Coast Road, And bus direct to Orchard or Shenton way from there.

A short walk to Parkway Parade too.

I would say the one at Chinatown may be the least sleazy one.. Try not to take those along Geylang if you dont want others to get the wrong idea. :)
